“Hybrid seeds may cause STERILITY among youth…….,” Dr. Christina Henatsch.

The Open Pollinated Seed Workshop at Thaur the Doon Haat underscored the crucial role of open-pollinated seeds in fostering sustainable agriculture and biodiversity conservation. Experts and stakeholders delved into discussions on seed breeding, policy frameworks, and the economic feasibility of establishing a seed network in India.

Among the distinguished speakers were Dr. Christina Henatsch, a renowned biodynamic seed breeder from Germany, and Ms. Petra Boie, the former CEO of Bingenheimer. Dr. Henatsch, representing Bingenheimer—the world’s largest and oldest cooperative of biodynamic breeders—shared her deep expertise in open-pollinated seed development, providing valuable insights into sustainable seed practices. The workshop also addressed the challenges posed by hybrid seeds and explored strategies to strengthen agricultural resilience. Participants exchanged knowledge on seed preservation, collaborative models, and training initiatives, concluding with actionable steps to integrate open-pollinated seeds into regional farming systems for long-term sustainability and self-reliance. SARG is deeply committed to the quality of seeds. SARG farmers are trained to produce open pollinated seeds to ensure the production of the best quality organic and biodynamic foods.
